The Provost’s Latin America/Caribbean Merit Scholarship provided five new international students from Bolivia, Brazil, Jamaica, Panama, and St. Maarten with scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Through this scholarship, the students receive a scholarship of $500 for one or two semesters and classification as a Florida resident for tuition purposes, during the semesters(s) of the scholarship.

FSU students interested in studying internationally through Global Exchanges can maximize their experience by planning in advance, sometimes beginning a year to a year and a half before departure. The next deadline to participate in a fall 2021 or 2021-2022 academic year exchange is February 1.

Samuel Ajayi, Ph.D. student at FSU pursuing his doctorate in physics, passed his written Ph.D. Qualifying Exam within a year of admission, which students usually take after completing the second year in the program.

Recent FSU graduate Aws Al-Taie has been selected as the head of his branch within the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Technology (UoT) in Baghdad, which is the equivalent of a chair of a department at FSU.

Mina Akbari

Master's Degree in Art History and Library Science, Class of 2020

Akbari began pursuing visual art as an art history and library science student at FSU. After being encouraged by visual arts faculty and students to express herself through painting, she developed several bodies of work.

New international student Seif Eldeen Aldahiyat from Jordan was one of 352 new international students from 70 countries beginning their studies this fall with FSU. Aldahiyat said one of the main reasons he chose FSU was the amazing reputation FSU has nationwide. Due to the global pandemic, only 29 new students received visas to enter the U.S., 47 FSU graduates started new degree programs, and 105 students transferred to FSU from other U.S. institutions. An additional 171 of the newly admitted international students for fall began their studies from their home countries.
