Newly admitted international undergraduate students from qualifying countries may apply for the Provost’s Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Merit Scholarship. This is a competitive, non-renewable scholarship with a limited number of awards going to only the most highly qualified students.
The scholarship consists of a $500 award per semester for the student’s first two semesters at FSU (fall and spring), which temporarily classifies the recipient as an in-state resident for tuition purposes for the two semesters of the scholarship. After the two semesters of the scholarship, students will then be responsible for paying regular out-of-state tuition and fees.
Eligibility
- Citizen of Latin American or Caribbean countries: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Cayman, Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands, Uruguay, Venezuela, U.K. Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Admitted for degree-seeking undergraduate study at FSU.
- Planning to study in F-1 or J-1 status.
- 3.5 minimum high school (weighted) GPA for freshmen or, for transfer students, a cumulative GPA that includes repeated courses. Applying with the required GPA does not automatically qualify a student for the LAC scholarship.
Important Note:
Students receiving Florida Linkage awards, FSU admissions scholarships or waivers, or other FSU, athletics, or departmental scholarships which reduce tuition to the in-state rate should not apply since they are not eligible for the Provost's LAC scholarship.
