Jyuji Nakashima, an exchange student from Waseda University, is completing his academic year program at FSU. Waseda University offers many options to its outbound exchange students, but he chose FSU primarily due to the climate. “Unlike other parts of Florida, it has an extremely cold winter,” said Jyuji. I personally enjoy the shifts of the season, so I immediately decided to apply.”
In a celebration of academic achievement and global citizenship, two students, Megan Cooper and Chanti (Marie-Chantal) Max, have been awarded $750 scholarships from the Global Citizenship Certificate (GCC) program to help offset the costs of participating in Global Exchange programs this spring. These competitive scholarships are awarded to two outstanding students per semester who are enrolled in the Global Citizenship Program and are participating in a Global Exchange program to meet their international experience requirement.
Andrea Strickland, a senior majoring in Political Science with a Pre-Law track, is making waves in her community by spearheading fundraising efforts for the Haiti Grass Project. Her involvement showcases the power of grassroots initiatives and the impact that determined individuals can have on global issues.
Anna Bernatt, a senior majoring in Chinese and Japanese, is participating in a Global Exchange program in Taiwan for the 2023-24 academic year, and Rylan Eichem, a junior majoring in International Affairs, is there for the Fall 2023 semester. Through the FSU Global Exchange Program, both Anna and Rylan are attending the National Chengchi University in Taipei City, Taiwan. During their time in Taiwan, both students have had culturally enriching learning opportunities.
Ahmed Khlaifi, a government-sponsored student from Tunisia studying Computer Science, is enrolled in the 2023-2024 academic year at FSU as a recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program (TJSP) sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. With a special interest in the cultural differences he is experiencing between his life at FSU versus his life in Tunisia, Ahmed hopes to bring attention to his home country, remove stereotypes, and be an ambassador for all global citizens.
Marcus Thompkins and Howard Williams, graduate students in Florida State University's Urban and Regional Planning graduate program, embarked on a transformative journey to Aalborg, Denmark, through FSU's Global Exchanges program during Spring 2023. This unique opportunity allowed them to gain valuable insights into urbanization dynamics while studying in Aalborg University's renowned Aalborg Urban, Energy, and Environmental Planning program.
Liam Sabo, a junior majoring in music and business, recently had the opportunity to spend his Summer 2023 semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea, through the FSU Global Exchange Program. During this time at Hanyang International Summer School, Liam was inspired not only by what he learned in the classroom but also by his experiences outside his academics.
Huiying "Amy" Ni is a senior from China pursuing dual degrees in Media Communication Studies and Psychology. Her academic accomplishments, leadership roles and passion for cross-cultural exchange have made her a shining star in the FSU community.
Florida State University's Center for Global Engagement (CGE) welcomes Bryant Harden, the new Instructional Specialist and Program Director for the Global Citizenship Certificate to the team. Bryant, a dedicated advocate for international education and global engagement, has a robust background in international relations and a passion for fostering cross-cultural understanding. Harden brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly enrich the campus community at FSU.
