Meet Heather Jordan: FSU's Peace Corps Campus Recruiter

Since August 2025, Heather Jordan has been serving as Florida State University’s Peace Corps Campus Recruiter, embodying the Peace Corps’ third goal: to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. For the past two decades, she has shared her Peace Corps experience with friends, family and colleagues—and now, it’s her job to inspire students to consider this life-changing opportunity. Jordan provides Peace Corps information sessions Wednesdays at 2:00 P.M. and Thursdays at 12:00 P.M. in the Globe Room 2300, makes classroom presentations upon request and tables at events like Market Wednesday. To learn more, reach out to Jordan at peacecorps@fsu.edu.

Jordan encourages students who want to make a difference and explore life beyond U.S. borders to consider Peace Corps after graduation. Florida is one of the top five states in the U.S. in producing Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV). Volunteers work in education, health, agriculture, environment and community development in over 60 countries worldwide. New volunteer positions are posted every three months. Jordan recommends that planning ahead is key since the application process takes six to nine months.

Jordan served as an English teacher in Monapo, Mozambique from 2003 to 2005 as a PCV. Reflecting on her service, Jordan recalls a pivotal moment saying “at the midway point of my two years, I went home for Christmas. On the bus ride back to Monapo, I realized I felt like I was going home. That shift was powerful.”

The week of March 1st marks Peace Corps Week 2026, commemorating the establishment of the Peace Corps on March 1st, 1961. That week, the CGE is hosting an Engage Your World: Peace Corps Panel event that will be moderated by Jordan and feature a panel of other PCVs to talk about their experiences. The Engage Your World: Peace Corps Panel will take place on Thursday, March 5th, at 5:00 P.M. in the Globe Auditorium.
