Students Study Internationally Through FSU's Global Exchanges: Apply by February 1

FSU's Spring 2020 Outbound Global Exchanges Students

This spring 37 students are studying internationally at 16 partner universities in 10 different countries and areas through FSU's Global Exchanges. Students will be studying in France, Netherlands, China, Australia, Taiwan, UK, Spain, New Zealand, Japan, and Germany. Ten of these 37 have already completed the fall semester on an exchange and are excited to remain for an additional semester.

Savannah Mikus, FSU senior studying Chinese and Japanese Culture and Language, is one of the 10 students continuing her academic year exchange at Kwansei Gakuin University in Nishinomiya, Japan. Mikus has aspirations of becoming a translator after graduation and chose to study abroad with the intent of refining her language skills.

"This experience has given me first-hand experience with Japanese culture," Mikus said. "I feel as though I can localize things better and I have a better understanding of how Japanese society functions."

Florida State students pay FSU tuition and fees while using financial aid to study at one of FSU’s 45+ international partner universities in more than 20 different countries. Applications to go on a Global Exchange over the summer, next fall, or for academic year 2020-21 are due February 1. Information sessions are held every Wednesday at 2 p.m. and every Thursday at 12 p.m. in The Globe (GME Building) room 2600. Interested students can also browse through our catalog of exchange locations online at global.fsu.edu/exchanges.

FSU's Global Exchanges can meet the new liberal studies requirement for Formative Experience. Students with a wide range of majors are able to participate in Global Exchanges, and many of them are upperclassmen who earn credit toward their major coursework. Because Global Exchange participants are enrolled at FSU during the experience, they meet FSU’s residency requirement for the last 30 hours of their degree programs.

There are several ways returning students can maximize their exchange experience. Global Noles, a mentoring program for incoming exchange students at FSU, is one of many opportunities for returning students to continue engaging with people from different cultures while on FSU’s campus. Students can also share their exchange experience in the Going Global Showcase held during International Education Week annually.

A Global Exchange also fulfills the sustained experience requirement for the Global Citizenship Certificate (GCC). Additionally, students enrolled in GCC who want to go on an exchange are eligible to apply for the Global Citizenship Certificate Scholarship.
