A Taste of Home: Global Café Celebrates the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Student Association (DSA) has been a frequent collaborator with the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) on events such as International Coffee Hour, International Bazaar and Global Café. They will co-host the upcoming Global Café: Dominican Republic at The Globe on Friday, February 27, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The menu will feature Dominican favorites including pollo guisado, red beans and rice, tostones, flan and a passionfruit mojito.
Natalie Mieses, DSA president and a digital media production and psychology double major, described the Global Café menu as “very rich and flavorful,” adding, “It feels like a warm hug when you have a busy day and finally get to come home. It’s very nostalgic for many of us.” She is especially excited for the flan, which reminds her of her grandmother’s cooking.
When asked why people should attend Global Café: Dominican Republic, Mieses shared, “It is a great opportunity to get an affordable home-cooked meal that you might have never had before. We want to make the vibe feel like guests are in the Dominican Republic—from the music to the food. Food is a way that you can escape and relax, which is what we encourage guests to do.”
Mieses described the Dominican Student Association as a welcoming organization open to the Hispanic community as well as anyone at FSU seeking a place to belong. The DSA hosts events that promote community-building and professional development, including their Interview 101 workshop, free headshot event, International Coffee Hour and, of course, Global Café.
Global Café: Dominican Republic will take place Friday, February 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until the food runs out in the Globe Dining Room. This event is open to the public. Each meal is $12, credit card only.
