FSU and the CGE Welcomes New International Students for Fall 2024
As FSU begins the fall semester, the campus is buzzing with excitement as over 500 new international students dive headfirst into their academic journeys. The new international students, coming from 66 different countries, bring unique perspectives and vibrant cultures that enrich the FSU campus and community. As we look forward to an exciting year ahead, it’s clear that the international students at FSU are ready to make the most of their experiences. Each one brings a unique story and set of aspirations that will contribute to the rich tapestry of campus life.
The CGE welcomed the new international students during a series of four International Student Orientation sessions in August. The most represented countries across all sessions were China, India, Panama, Bangladesh and South Korea. The top academic programs were Computer and Information Systems, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics and Physics. There were also five Fulbright Scholars admitted to FSU this fall, four of which are degree-seeking and are from Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Tunisia. They will be studying Philosophy, Music Theory and Composition, Cinematography and Film/Video Production, and Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law. The fifth Fulbright Scholar, who is from the West Bank, is non-degree and serving as a Teaching Assistant in the Arabic Language and Literature Program.
During the new international student orientations held in August, we had the opportunity to meet some of these bright individuals who shared their reasons for choosing FSU and their hopes for the future. Let’s get to know them as they begin their new chapter at FSU.
Zhoo Yang, a master’s student from China studying data science, chose FSU after hearing great things from a friend and is eager to continue his academic journey here. Manu Jimenez from Colombia, pursuing a master’s in statistics, was drawn to FSU for its proximity to home and the easy application process. She is particularly excited about the multicultural learning opportunities that await her.
Ricke Gillar, from Germany, is enrolled in the prestigious sports management master’s program and looks forward to networking and making the most of the resources available at FSU. Similarly, Likith Jaldu from India, a master’s student in information technology, was captivated by FSU’s beautiful atmosphere and is excited to meet people from different countries and cultures.
Yann Nassa, an undergraduate transfer student from Ivory Coast studying mechanical engineering, chose FSU for its strong engineering program and the seamless transition from TCC. He’s focused on getting his degree, securing internships, and growing his professional network. Antonio Aparicio from El Salvador, majoring in hospitality management, followed in his father’s footsteps to FSU and is most excited about following the school’s dedicated football program.
Juan Raul, a transfer student from FSU’s Panama campus studying finance and management information systems, was inspired by his sister’s positive experiences at FSU and is excited for football season and new learning opportunities. Stella Onel from Turkey, majoring in industrial engineering, was drawn to FSU after she had the chance to attend the FSU London Study Center for her freshman year. She is excited to immerse herself in a new culture and make new friends.
Additionally, FSU welcomes Global Exchange students like Mario Manca Bitti from Italy, who is studying business at the Rotterdam School of Management, and Gaia Devos from France, attending Neoma Business School. Both were attracted by FSU’s lively campus culture and were eager to meet new people and experience life in Tallahassee.
These students are set to leave their mark on FSU, and we’re thrilled to have them as part of our community. We look forward to seeing how they will shape the next generation of our university.
