International Students Celebrated at FSU Soccer Game Against Boston College
This Saturday, September 18, FSU Soccer held its annual International Student Night and celebrated a 4-1 win over Boston College.
FSU Soccer's long-standing tradition of honoring international students on the team and in our campus community at its International Student Night serves to acknowledge the value of international students on campus.
A representative from Seminole Sports Marketing said, "We host these International Student Nights because we know how big of a presence our international students have on campus, so we wanted to give them the FSU Soccer experience to show how much we appreciate all our students and student-athletes who have come here internationally."
FSU Soccer has nine players on the team from around the world.
- #16 Gabby Carle from Levis, Quebec, Canada
- #10 Jody Brown from St. Ann, Jamaica
- #13 LeiLanni Nesbeth from St. David's, Bermuda
- #7 Ran Iwai from Mitaka City, Tokyo, Japan

LeiLanni Nesbeth, FSU Soccer player and junior studying sports management said, "I think it is really nice to have everyone with different backgrounds and ethnicities come out and support the team. It was a great atmosphere. It was a great environment. As someone from overseas myself, it is so nice to be able to get support from other International Students."
Approximately 60 international students and scholars attended a special tailgate before the game hosted by FSU Soccer where they enjoyed pizza and games, including a bean bag toss and a frozen t-shirt competition. Anamika Roy, doctoral student from Bangladesh studying biomedical engineering, won the frozen t-shirt competition against her fellow international students.
Mahnaz Afroz, international student from Bangladesh pursuing a Ph.D. in civil engineering, attended the tailgate with Roy and other friends. "I love to attend international tailgate events and soccer games whenever I can," Afroz said. "It's great to see how international students on the team and the larger FSU community are being celebrated here. Meeting people from so many different countries through these events is always fun."
