Apply to Go on a Global Exchange by February 1
Through Global Exchanges, students can pay FSU tuition and fees while using financial aid to study at one of FSU’s 40+ international partner universities in more than 20 different countries.
Applications to go on a Global Exchange over the summer, next fall, or for the next academic year are due February 1. Information sessions are held every Wednesday at 12 p.m. and every Thursday at 2 p.m. in The Globe (GME Building) room 2300.
Mary Green, an FSU student studying social work, recently completed an exchange program in Australia. She was able to use her financial aid, as well as scholarships she received through the FSU College of Social Work and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, to live in Australia without an additional financial burden.
“These 4.5 months really taught me a lot about independence,” Green said. “I learned a lot about myself. I got to travel Australia and see all the beauty it has to offer. I met so many different people from different cultures and became friends with many.”
Green is also a part of Global Noles, a mentoring program for incoming exchange students at FSU, which is one of many opportunities for returning students to continue engaging with people from different cultures while on FSU’s campus. Students can also attend the Florida International Leadership Conference and share their exchange experience in the Going Global Showcase held during International Education Week annually.
Students with a wide range of majors study internationally through Global Exchanges, and many of them are upperclassmen who earn credit toward their major coursework. Because Global Exchange participants are enrolled at FSU during the experience, this enables them to meet FSU’s residency requirement for the last 30 hours of their degree programs. This spring, 44 FSU students are studying at 18 universities in 12 countries, and some of the majors represented by the group include interdisciplinary social science, management information systems, marketing, international affairs, and biology.
A Global Exchange also fulfills the sustained experience requirement for the Global Citizenship Certificate (GCC) and fulfills the international engagement area requirement of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society (GGSS). Additionally, students enrolled in both GCC and GGSS who want to go on an exchange are eligible to apply for a special scholarship.
