We invite anyone to explore other cultures and the world through these virtual activities designed to increase intercultural competence.

  • If you are a faculty, staff, or FSU graduate student remotely completing the Global Partner Certificate, you may use events from this list to complete your 3 intercultural events requirements.

VIRTUAL TOURS

Asia

Angkor Wat, Cambodia View - Angkor Wat, “the city of temples”, is the largest religious monument in the world, originally built as a Hindu temple complex dedicated to the god Vishnu in the first half of the 12th century. Take the tour here and supplement it with a YouTube video on the monument here.

Taj Mahal, India View - The 17th-century white marble “crown of palaces” in Agra, north India, combines Persian, Islamic and Indian architectural styles and took 22 years to complete. Explore this monument here. Pair it with a virtual tour video of the monument here.

Africa

Namib Desert Dunes, Namibia View - The swirling sculptural patterns the Namib desert’s sand dunes stretch for 31,000 square miles across the Namib-Naukluft national park in southern Africa. Take a virtual tour here. Pair with the documentary- Namib: Surviving the Sand Sea on YouTube here.

Pyramids of Giza, Egypt View -On the edge of the desert where the sand ends and modern Cairo begins, the pyramids of Giza were constructed around 4,500 years ago as grand tombs for the pharaohs. Americas

MASP, São Paulo Tour - The Museu de Arte de São Paulo is a non-profit and Brazil’s first modern museum. Artworks placed on clear perspex frames make it seem like the artwork is hovering in midair. Explore up to six virtual exhibits here. Pair with a travel guide of the city of Sao Paulo here.

National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Tour - A famous American art museum that features two online exhibits. The first is an exhibit of American fashion from 1740 to 1895, including many renderings of clothes from the colonial and Revolutionary eras. The second is a collection of works from Dutch Baroque painter Johannes Vermeer. Check out one of their two online exhibits here. Europe

British Museum, London Tour - An iconic museum located in the heart of London allows virtual visitors to tour a variety of historical artifacts. Visit their website for virtual tours here and supplement it with YouTube tours by the British Museum here.

Musée d’Orsay, Paris Tour - Virtually walk through this popular gallery that houses dozens of famous works from French artists who worked and lived between 1848 and 1914. Get a peek at artworks from Monet, Cézanne, and Gauguin, among others here. Pair with biography videos of Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.
