International Bazaar

Global Cafe Vietnam

Sat, Feb 13 | 2-5 pm | FSU Union Ballrooms - The 21st annual International Bazaar showcases more than 25 student and community organizations, each offering a unique representation of their cultural traditions. Youth and adult groups demonstrate dances, songs, and traditions from their heritage. In addition, representatives share photos and artifacts as they answer questions at display tables around the ballroom.

A variety of international foods will be available for purchase at $5 a plate. Admission is free and open to the public. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

Intercultural Program Series: Lebanon

International Bazaar

Tue, Feb 9 | 7 pm | The Globe Auditorium - Learn about the beautiful culture and history of Lebanon through music, dance, and food at this Intercultural Program Series event.

The Intercultural Program Series offers a way to experience global cultures without having to leave campus, and it's designed to engage individuals through hands-on participation. Free and open to the public. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

International Coffee Hour - Every Friday | 5-6:30 pm | The Globe Lounge & Dining Room
U.S. students, scholars, and faculty gather for coffee and snacks every Friday. It's a great place to meet new people from various parts of the world, see old friends, and make plans for the weekend. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

 

English Conversation Club - Every Monday-Friday | 4-5 pm | The Globe Lounge
International students, scholars, and their families at all levels of speaking English as a second/other language are invited to meet in a relaxed atmosphere to practice conversational English. Groups are led by experienced English tutors.

 

Global Partner Certificate: Bridging Cultures II - Cross-Cultural Encounters (for Faculty, Staff & Grad Students) - Fri, Feb 5 | 9:30 am-12 pm | The Globe Room 2300
Prerequisite: Bridging Cultures I. The Global Partner Certificate is a Center for Global Engagement professional development initiative for those interested in improving their intercultural communication, knowledge, skills, and awareness and becoming more globally competent. This certificate recognizes an individual’s commitment to understanding and appreciating cultural diversity at FSU. Participants must complete all four workshops (in order) and three intercultural events offered on campus and/or in the Tallahassee community. Visit the CGE website for details.

Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC) - Fri, Feb 5-Sun, Feb 7 | Camp Winona, DeLeon Springs, Florida
Note: Only for those registered. The Florida International Leadership Conference challenges future international leaders with teambuilding exercises and sessions on a variety of topics ranging from global leadership, to intercultural communication, to campus activism. CGE will be taking 14 FSU students to the FILC this year. For more information on FILC and how you can participate next year, visit the CGE website.

Prerequisite: Bridging Cultures I & II. The Global Partner Certificate is a Center for Global Engagement professional development initiative for those interested in improving their intercultural communication, knowledge, skills, and awareness and becoming more globally competent. Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop (for F-1 international students) - Fri, Feb 19 | 2-4 pm | The Globe Room 2300
All F-1 international students nearing graduation are required to attend an OPT workshop (in person or online) if they are interested in working in the U.S. after graduation to gain experience in their field of study. Registration is required.

 

Engage Your World: Out of Order? Approaching North Korean Human Rights & Denuclearization - Tue, Feb 23 | 5:30 pm | The Globe Auditorium
This event features Keith Luse, Executive Director of the National Committee on North Korea; David Maxwell, Associate Director of the Center for Security Studies & the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University; and Roberta Cohen, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institute. It will be moderated by Kyle Ferrier, Director of Academic Affairs & Research at the Korea Economic Institute of America. Global Citizen Award Nomination Deadline - Mon, Feb 29
The Global Citizen Award is presented to up to two outstanding students who have been actively engaged in intercultural initiatives and/or who have exemplified leadership in promoting and supporting a global community among Florida State University students. Students can be nominated by faculty, staff, or their peers. Visit the CGE website for more information and a list of nominee criteria.

International Student Employment Workshop: Preparing to Gain Employment in the U.S. - Sat, Mar 19 | 9:30 am-3 pm | The Globe Auditorium
This workshop for international students features immigration attorney Aaron Blumberg and presenters from the FSU Career Center. Hear more about transitioning from student to work visa status and options for obtaining permanent residence. Learn how to market your skills and identify potential job or internship opportunities. Postdoctoral researchers and other FSU international employees are welcome to attend. Light breakfast and lunch are provided. Registration is required.

Tax Workshop for International Students - Fri, Mar 25 | 1-3 pm for those filing as a Resident for tax purposes | 3-5 pm for those filing as a Non-Resident for tax purposes | The Globe Auditorium
This workshop is facilitated by a certified tax specialist and covers options for F-1 and J-1 students and scholars who earned income in 2015. Registration is required. Visit the CGE website for more information.
