Submit a Video to GradWorld FSU, Reach the World

Take advantage of the opportunity to showcase your research and join FSU’s community of global scholars by broadcasting your research through GradWorld FSU.

GradWorld FSU is an interactive mapping website that uses personalized video presentations to highlight the extraordinary work of FSU graduate students, postdocs, alumni, and faculty.

Since its launch in 2017, over 300 videos have been posted to GradWorld, representing over 35 countries and 72 different degree programs. The database is sortable by college/unit, degree program, degree level, country, and language. Acknowledgments are also now given to the funding agencies as well.

Min Wang, Ph.D. candidate studying International and Multicultural Education, presented her research on educational inequality in rural China. “Developing the video with GradWorld has helped me learn to communicate my research to a more general audience, and I really appreciate the opportunity to share,” Wang said. “Since the video was made public, I have received many positive comments from a range of audiences on my research, such as friends, mentors, and colleagues, which motivated me to continue doing the research with quality and rigor.”

GradWorld is a great opportunity to not only practice communicating your research but also promote your passions to a wider audience. “GradWorld expanded my research audience and readership,” said Lili Hurioglu, a Postdoctoral scholar working at FSU’s Learning Systems Institute (LSI). Hurioglu presented her research on Cognitively Guided Instruction in math classes.

“I received numerous emails about my research, knowledge, and expertise. Developing the video allowed me to showcase my skill sets and expand my communication skills. It was also challenging to tailor my research to a broader audience without any scientific terminology.”

Students are encouraged to submit videos in both English and other languages.

Dr. Mark Riley, dean of The Graduate School, initiated GradWorld with inspiration from late FSU chemistry professor and Nobel Laureate Sir Harry Kroto’s GEOSET project, which shared specialized knowledge with young people through videos. From there, Riley worked with staff from The Graduate School and University Communications to bring the project to life.

Today GradWorld attracts talented students and researchers to FSU and helps our community showcase their successes while building a professional portfolio.

“Not only is GradWorld FSU attracting potential graduate students to apply and join our wonderful community, but in highlighting faculty research and scholarly activities, we are finding that more and more students are getting inspired by GradWorld FSU and using the platform to identify faculty members to serve on their thesis, treatise and dissertation supervisory committees,” said James Beck, Graduate Policy Program Coordinator for the Graduate School. “From a professional development standpoint, many students are using GradWorld FSU to create “interactive portfolios” that they can post on their CV/resume and standout in applications. The video experience is seen as rewarding because it is a way to highlight their research experience, practice public speaking, and create a lasting memory.”
