Florida State University Hosts Interns from the University of the West Indies

Florida State University is hosting two higher education masters students from the University of the West Indies (UWI) for a six-week internship in the Division of Student Affairs.

The international students, Ann Clement-Kirton and Liana Coggins, are interning in the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement and the Center for Global Engagement, respectively. The internship will provide them with practical experience and learning opportunities in a university setting as one of their final requirements before receiving their master’s degree.

“The staff at Florida State University are very warm, friendly and accommodating. I will be working with the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement,” said Clement-Kirton. “I hope to observe and gain experience as to how student affairs services are delivered at a global university.”

“I will be working with the Center for Global Engagement. I have been particularly impressed with the reception by the CGE staff and the way everyone has helped us to settle in and get what we need,” said Coggins. “Through this experience, I am confident that I will be able to observe student services theory in practice and gain practical experience in dealing with students at the university level.”

Clement-Kirton and Coggins will be attending a variety of university events, speaking to FSU students about their home countries, volunteering at the Dalton Institute, attending some classes in FSU’s higher education program, as well as working on a capstone project.
