CGE Welcomes New International Students at Orientation
Florida State University’s Center for Global Engagement welcomed 96 new international students from 36 countries to campus this spring. Forty-two undergraduate students, including 21 students transferring in from FSU's Republic of Panama Branch Campus, 23 master’s students and 20 doctoral students made up the majority of the new group. In addition, ten non-degree exchange students arrived for spring from seven of our partner universities in six countries, along with one non-degree student here through FSU’s collaboration with IREX in the U.S. government’s Global Undergraduate Exchange Program with Pakistan.
“I chose to study here because FSU is a very good university with well-renowned professors. The campus is excellent with good infrastructure, and the educational standard is very high,” said Nissi Supriya Konda, master’s student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana, India. “I believe my graduate studies at FSU mark the beginning of a very rewarding learning experience. Moreover, the faculty and staff here are very friendly and welcoming and have made my stay here very comfortable so far.”
Hyo Jin, a third-year communications student at Sookmyung Women’s University in South Korea, is one of 10 other non-degree students studying at FSU this spring on a Global Exchange. “It’s my first time to be in the USA, and I really want to feel the U.S. campus atmosphere,” Jin said. “I love the campus so far! I think the exchange program and its Global Nole mentor program is amazing.”
The Global Nole program assists incoming exchange students with their pre-arrival questions and adjustment to life once at FSU by pairing them with an undergraduate who has studied on a Global Exchange or has an interest in going on an exchange.*
Global Exchanges also offer the opportunity for FSU students to study at one of our 45+ international partner universities while paying FSU tuition, earning FSU credits, and using financial aid. This spring, 40 FSU students will study at 18 universities in 12 different countries. Interested students should visit global.fsu.edu/exchanges or attend an info session, which are held every Wednesday at 2 p.m. & Thursday at 12 p.m. in The Globe, Room 2600.**
* Students interested in applying to be a Global Nole for 2020-2021 can email Raymond Espinol at respinol@fsu.edu for application information.
** Note that the deadline to apply for summer 2020, fall 2020 and academic year 2020-21 for most exchanges is February 1. And the deadline to apply for spring 2021 exchanges is October 1.
