Transferring to FSU

About Transfers

Students transferring to Florida State from another U.S. educational institution or an intensive English school must have the International Student Adviser at their current school complete and submit an FSU Transfer In Form before a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019) can be issued to them. Remember that even if you have just graduated or completed your program, you are still considered a transfer for immigration purposes.

Once you have been admitted to FSU and we certify your funding information, we will check for your release status in the SEVIS electronic federal database. Your current school must release your SEVIS record to us (no later than 59 days after the end date on your current I-20 before we can proceed with the transfer in to FSU and issue an FSU I-20 or DS-2019 form.

Note that, typically, your current school will release your SEVIS record to us at the end of the current semester, unless you are on an academic calendar other than a semester system. Consequently, there will only be a small window between certain semesters for our office to process your SEVIS transfer. Please plan accordingly.

Information for other U.S. Educational Institutions: For F-1 transfer students, FSU is listed as "Florida State University-Florida State University" in SEVIS. "Florida State University-CIES" is our intensive English school.
