International Education Week
November 12-19, 2010International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. This year's theme on the Florida State University's campus is "Building a Sustainable Future" Please see events listed below:

Going Global: Showcase of Student Discovery and Global Photo Exhibit

Official Kick-Off event organized by the Center for Leadership and Civic Education, FSU International Programs and the Center for Global Engagement showcasing students' global experiences and photographs from Global Photo Contest. Key-note address by Dr. Mary Coburn, Vice
President for Student Affairs, Dr. Joe Nosari, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dustin Daniels, the Student Government President. International
food will be served, event free and open to all students, faculty and staff.
International Coffee Hour

Florida International Leadership Conference

Information Session Learn more about the 5th annual Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC) which will be held at Camp Ocala 4-H Center in
Altoona, Florida from February 4-6, 2011. The conference challenges American and international students with teambuilding exercises and sessions on a
variety of topics ranging from global leadership to intercultural communication and campus activism. Application Deadline 12/1/2010.
Documentary Screening: "It's never too Darwin: Una Serata Scientifica con Anna Loy."
6:30pm @ The Globe Auditorium. Refreshments provided.
Anna Loy, a biology professor at the Universita del Molise, will present the first part of a TV series on evolution that she developed with Piero Benedetti, a professor at the Universita di Padova. This narrative short is centered on a slightly incongruous duo, a Zoology professor and a member of the maintenance staff of his University. As a modern version of Darwin and Fitzroy sailing aboard the Beagle, they travel together to Sicily to discover traces of ancient animal species. During the journey, the professor will try to pass on to his friend the excitement of scientific discovery, and to involve him in his passion for science and evolution. Filmed in 2009, it has already been screened in Rome, Venice, and Genoa. FSU will host its U.S. premiere. In Italian without English subtitles.
"A Small Act" Movie

A Small Act Tells a story of a Harvard graduate and a Human Rights Lawyer for the United Nations, Chris Mburu whose life was changed by one small act from a woman miles and miles away. Global Peace Exchange (GPE) and World Affairs Program (WAP) will be leading a conversation after the movie.

From Florida State University to United Nations: Brown Bag Lunch and Conversation With Dr. Ziad Rifai

Dr. Ziad Rifai, a Jordanian citizen, currently serves as the Regional Representative of the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA) based in Cairo. The UNFPA's programs in the Middle East include: reproductive health, HIV/AIDS; gender; youth and communications. Before joining the UNFPA, Dr. Rifai held a variety of posts with UNICEF. He was also a Professor of Communication at Yarmouck University in Amman. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from FSU in 1986. Students interested in working for the United Nations and sharing ideas for intercultural dialogue through education are welcome to attend. Bridging Cultures for Service Excellence

This interactive training provides valuable information on how to develop, improve and apply intercultural communication skills for the overall enhancement of communication when interacting with international students, scholars and faculty.
