Global Ambassador Program
The Global Ambassadors program (GAP) gives international students, faculty, and scholars the opportunity to be cultural ambassadors of their countries! They engage in speaking opportunities throughout Tallahassee at community organizations, K-12 schools, and FSU classes.
Xiao Wen, a Chinese student who participated in GAP during the Fall 2009 semester, describes the experience, "It is a great opportunity for us to know American people, either middle school teachers, students, or the community". The program benefits International students as it can enhance their resume, help develop public speaking and presentation skills in English and meet new people!
In the past, Global Ambassadors have presented at Westminster Oaks Retirement Community, SAIL High School, PACE Center for Girls, Sabal Palms Elementary, Cornerstone Learning Community, and Florida State University classes. Dr. Angel Gonzalez, FSU professor, says of students who visited his International Travel and Culture Class, "Their participation demonstrated commitment and total dedication to fostering better understanding between students in the U.S. and the people from the countries they represent".
The GAP is an incredibly valuable experience for the both the presenters and the audience. Mr. Eugene Hall of PACE Center for Girls explains, "The lectures that your ambassadors presented were an eye opener to our PACE girls. They are still talking about the many things they learned about Chinese art, literature, folklore, economy, and culture".
We encourage the Florida State University's international community of students, scholars and faculty to join the program by filling out the application online or dropping a hard copy off at the Center for Global Engagement. Please feel free to email Aleks Nesic anesic@Admin.fsu.edu if you have any questions.
