Choosing the Best Visa
The majority of the visas encountered at Florida State University are the following:F-1 - Student
(dependents hold F-2 status)
J-1 - Exchange Visitor
(various categories including student, research scholar, professor, short-term scholar, specialist) (dependents hold J-2 status)
H-1B - professional worker in a specialty occupation
(dependents hold H-4 status)
TN - Treaty Nafta, an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens employed in certain fields
O-1 - alien of extraordinary ability
All visa classifications have rules and regulations that determine what can and cannot be done by individuals holding the specific status.
