NOTE: Most Federal Tax returns for those who worked in the U.S. during 2011
must be postmarked no later than April 17, 2012.

Attention U.S. Government scholarship recipients: If you are a U.S. Government scholarship recipient, please DO NOT use GLACIER Tax Prep before checking with your sponsor (IIE, LASPAU, Amideast, VEF, USAID) regarding their procedures for tax filing. Some U.S. Goverment sponsors will prepare your tax return for you, using their own GRANTAX system, and you will be required to file your taxes this way.

Tax Information for 2011 Filing:

You should determine your RESIDENCY status for TAX PURPOSES. To determine if you are eligible to file on a resident return, take the GLACIER Tax Prep Substantial Presence Test. (Please note in the previous GLACIER Tax Prep is referred to as CINTAX.)

Knowing the above (your Tax residency status and needed forms) will help you determine if you need to use GLACIER Tax Prep to file your tax return.

If you received any payment or funds from Florida State University in 2011, you will receive an email from GLACIER about access to GLACIER Tax Prep, an online tax preparation software. An international student/scholar who received any income or scholarship in 2011 is REQUIRED by federal law to file a U.S. income tax return by the deadline of April 17, 2012.

This year, the FSU Center for Global Engagement has purchased a license agreement so that you can use GLACIER Tax Prep for free to prepare your U.S. income tax return. FSU also uses GLACIER Online Tax Compliance Software, in which you should have previously completed an Individual Record. This year, you will be able to access GLACIER Tax Prep by going through GLACIER. To do so, you'll simply access GLACIER using your existing UserID and Password and GLACIER will transfer certain data to GLACIER Tax Prep - making your tax return preparation even easier!

However, we do have a limited number of licenses available on a first come first served basis. The GLACIER-GLACIER Tax Prep link will be activated and available on February 20 at 8:00am. We ask that you log in after 8:00am on February 20 and start your return. By doing so, you will access one of the licenses for yourself and be assured that you will be able to use the software. You do not have to complete the forms; GLACIER Tax Prep will save your information. Note that once the GLACIER-GLACIER Tax Prep link is activated, it also sends out an email with information to all students and scholars.

Please remember that the CGE Advisers are not tax experts, so we cannot answer any tax-related questions for you.
