Marcus Thompkins and Howard Williams, graduate students in Florida State University's Urban and Regional Planning graduate program, embarked on a transformative journey to Aalborg, Denmark, through FSU's Global Exchanges program during Spring 2023. This unique opportunity allowed them to gain valuable insights into urbanization dynamics while studying in Aalborg University's renowned Aalborg Urban, Energy, and Environmental Planning program. 

Liam Sabo, a junior majoring in music and business, recently had the opportunity to spend his Summer 2023 semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea, through the FSU Global Exchange Program. During this time at Hanyang International Summer School, Liam was inspired not only by what he learned in the classroom but also by his experiences outside his academics.

Huiying "Amy" Ni is a senior from China pursuing dual degrees in Media Communication Studies and Psychology. Her academic accomplishments, leadership roles and passion for cross-cultural exchange have made her a shining star in the FSU community.

Florida State University's Center for Global Engagement (CGE) welcomes Bryant Harden, the new Instructional Specialist and Program Director for the Global Citizenship Certificate to the team. Bryant, a dedicated advocate for international education and global engagement, has a robust background in international relations and a passion for fostering cross-cultural understanding. Harden brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly enrich the campus community at FSU.

Rachel Neale, the Intercultural Programs Manager at the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), will be leaving her position in August to go to Bulgaria for ten months on the Fulbright Student Program. 

Working at the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is a rewarding experience, filled with opportunities for growth and learning. Dr. Tanu Kohli, a vital member of the CGE team over the last six years, recently announced her departure. We had the privilege of talking with Dr. Kohli to gain insight into her time at the CGE, her accomplishments and her future endeavors.

Thirteen students from Florida State University embarked on an exciting journey to Japan as part of an FSU Global Exchange program. The students are attending classes at Waseda University, one of Japan's most prestigious universities located in Tokyo. Some will be enrolled for the spring semester and others will be there for the academic year. The Global Exchange program offers students the opportunity to gain a global perspective and immerse themselves in a new culture while pursuing their academic goals.

As the summer semester begins at Florida State and many students embark on a new chapter in their academic careers, two students have taken a very different route to Florida State. Evgenia Mikhnovska and Roman Lysenko, both undergraduate students from Ukraine, will be attending classes at FSU for the summer semester as scholarship recipients of the Global Democracy Ambassador Scholarship for Ukraine. Their maturity and intelligence come to light when you meet them, and they shared a bit of their journey and what led them here to Tallahassee.

Gizem Solmaz-Ratzlaff has been named a 2023 recipient of the Center for Global Engagement’s Global Citizen Award, which honors outstanding students who have actively engaged in intercultural initiatives on campus or abroad and who have exemplified leadership in promoting and supporting a global community among Florida State University students.

The Bangladeshi Student Association (BSA) at Florida State University (FSU) is a vibrant and active student organization that serves as a social, cultural and educational platform for Bangladeshi students and others interested in Bangladeshi culture. Since the BSA was founded in 2014 with 10 members, they have grown to include 78 official members --- a combination of enrolled students and recent graduates. The wider community, which includes spouses and children, is around 120. The majority of the students from Bangladesh are in doctoral programs in the STEM areas.
