The internship/work opportunities available are varied. Some positions will provide the opportunity to learn immigration rules and regulations that pertain to international students in the US. Others focus more on programs and activities designed to help international students become more familiar with US culture and academic culture, as well as programs that engage both US and international students to promote cross-cultural understanding.

With hands-on work, students will gain knowledge and understanding about how this office works within the Division of Student Affairs and the services that it provides to the FSU campus and community. Our internships and work-study positions provide excellent opportunities for the student to learn about the field of international education.


Work-Study Positions Available

Information Technology Assistant - CLOSED

The CGE IT Assistant will provide support to the IT Manager by performing basic administrative task. This position will be task to maintain and improve data integrity by organizing data in our International Student and Scholar Immigration Software. In addition, provide help with technical support and assist with tech inventory.

ISSS Immigration Assistant - CLOSED

Assist with reviewing scholar and student compliance with J visa insurance requirements by running weekly spreadsheets, reviewing submitted documentation, entering dates of coverage, and indicating missing documentation.

Front Desk Receptionist Immigration - CLOSED

The CGE Immigration Front Desk Receptionist provides support to the International Student and Scholar Services suite by performing basic administrative and customer service tasks, including welcoming students and referring them to the appropriate staff member or service, routing phone calls and general emails, processing mail, scanning of immigration documents, and other clerical tasks.

Welcoming visitors, answering main phone line at front desk, transferring calls and taking/relaying messages. Answering room reservations and assisting visitors with check in/out procedures and also filing and bookkeeping.

The position serves as building staff of the Globe during the evening and weekend hours of operation. S/he will provide general assistance to the guests of The Globe, to maintain continuity of service of The Globe and after hour events. Internship Positions Available

CGE Social Media & Marketing Assistant - CLOSED

Description:

The Center for Global Engagement is seeking an energetic and creative individual to promote and market CGE programs to the university community through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat). Responsibilities also include attending events to interview students for our social platforms, creating detailed monthly social media reports, and other marketing tasks as needed.

This position is for up to 10 hours per week for $10 an hour during the Spring 2018 semester.

Requirements:

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

This position is offered as an internship (unpaid: credit or non-credit). The student assistant will report to Dr. Tanu Kohli Bagwe, Teaching Faculty at the Globe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research for topics to be used for class activities for an undergraduate course (IFS 2070: Global Perspectives)
  • Provide administrative and general classroom support as required
  • Help maintain the course Canvas site

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

English Conversation Club Tutors - CLOSED

Description: English Conversation Club tutors needed to help international students and scholars practice English speaking. You will be meeting with a group of international students and scholars (group size vary, from 3-10) and help them practice conversational English. Global Ambassadors Program Intern - CLOSED

Description: The Global Ambassadors program (GAP) is a program that gives international students, faculty, and scholars the opportunity to be cultural ambassadors of their countries! They engage in speaking opportunities throughout Tallahassee at community organizations, K-12 schools, and FSU classes.

The Global Ambassador intern works with the Program Coordinator, GAP participants, and host organizations to facilitate the speaking engagements. The intern promotes the program, provides orientation for new members, manages program communication, and accompanies students to their presentation sites with the use of CGE vehicles.

Graphic Designer - CLOSED

The Center for Global Engagement is seeking a part-time Graphic Designer for approximately 10 hours a week. The Graphic Designer responsibilities include creating print and online collateral including posters, handbills, flyers, handbooks and brochures, as well as graphic elements to be used on the website, in social media and on LCD monitors. This position is for up to 10 hours per week for $10 an hour during the Fall 2017 semester. The Graphic Designer reports to the CGE Communications Coordinator Rebecca Mahony.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (CS6 or CC), including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro
  • Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment using PCs

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a solid understanding of which graphic design program to use for different projects
  • Have an advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and especially InDesign

Student Assistant, Intercultural Programs - CLOSED

The Student Assistant for Intercultural Programs plays a key role in the Center for Global Engagement’s mission to provide both international and domestic students with a global experience while remaining on FSU’s campus. The Student Assistant helps plan and implement intercultural programs to promote interaction between international and US students. The Student Assistant also assists with logistics and support to the short-term Beyond Borders Cultural Exchange groups (from Jamaica and Germany) and interns from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. Through this position, the Student Assistant gains a high level of experience interacting with students from various cultures and makes connections with these students to show them insights into American life and culture. The Student Assistant position is ideal for an individual who is committed to and experienced in the benefits of intercultural exchange and dialogue.

Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the planning and implementation of intercultural programs to promote interaction between international and US students. Programs will meet requirements of Global Pathways Certificate as well as promote international student integration into campus life. Student Assistants will be responsible for creating and planning at least one international/intercultural event per semester.
  2. Assist with hosting of incoming Beyond Borders Exchange students from Germany and Jamaica to help facilitate their interaction with outbound FSU Beyond Borders students.
  3. Help promote and market CGE, Intercultural Programs and the Beyond Borders cultural exchanges through tabling on campus, information sessions, and classroom presentations.
  4. Assist with orientation and campus tours for new international student orientation in August and January..
  5. Support transportation of students by driving CGE vans (10 passengers and 6 passengers) for airport pick up, field trips and shopping trips.
  6. Assist with errands and tasks, including shopping for supplies in support of the above programs, and setting up rooms for incoming Beyond Borders students.
  7. Other administrative duties as assigned to support the Intercultural Programs unit and the Center for Global Engagement.

  • Must be able to start in mid-August (before classes begin). Must be able to commit to both Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters consecutively. The schedule is 5-20 hours per week depending on program needs. Note that this is a position with variable hours, including nights and weekends. This position is best suited for an individual with a flexible schedule. Some weeks (when hosting Beyond Borders groups for example) will be more heavily scheduled than other weeks.
  • Pay $8.50/hr.

International Student Services Assistant - CLOSED

Position Description

The Student Services Assistant will provide support to the International Student Services Coordinator and will assist in the process of working with newly admitted international students. The position will primarily assist in producing and sending immigration documents and pre-arrival information to new international students in a timely manner and responding to their questions via email prior to their arrival at FSU.

Responsibilities:

  • Input data into internal student database, Excel spreadsheet, and myFSU

Ability to set a consistent work schedule.

Preferred

Experience maintaining databases and filing systems. Familiarity with FSU administrative offices and student services on campus. Previous experience in an international setting and/or knowledge of a foreign language.

Schedule

15 hours per week Fall/Spring, 20-25 hours per week Summer. Scheduled hours will be performed during standard business hours 3-5 days per week.

Globe Kitchen Supervisor - CLOSED

Position Description:
The kitchen supervisor will ensure that all Globe kitchen policies and procedures are adhered to during kitchen use by student groups and FSU departments during events that involve the Globe kitchen. The supervisor will also prepare refreshments for special events and international coffee hours as well as carry out cleaning responsibilities. Supervisor needs to be highly organized and capable of multi-tasking in a fast paced environment.

Availability:
This is a part-time position and will be scheduled as needed for up to 15 hours per week. The supervisor must be available Fridays from 1pm – 8:00pm. The supervisor will be scheduled as needed for events on other days during the week depending on availability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that the kitchen at The Globe functions as a licensed facility and is in compliance with all Florida State University, Leon County and State of Florida regulations regarding health and safety. Ensure compliance with all safety, sanitation, and cleaning policies and procedures by any group or department using the kitchen
  2. Supervise and support any groups that use the kitchen, whether for a Globe sponsored event or an outside event in which the kitchen is reserved in advance. The supervisor will oversee groups as they cook and clean in the kitchen and ensure that all cleaning duties are completed as required. Some cleaning by the supervisor will be required to keep the kitchen at the highest standard of cleanliness and sanitation.
  3. Prepare refreshments and snacks, to include baking, cooking, chopping and plating for Globe sponsored programs including International Coffee Hour, Global Café, receptions and special events.
  4. Maintain oversight of inventory of cleaning supplies and kitchen staples and order or restock as needed.
  5. Perform monthly maintenance cleaning procedures on kitchen equipment and carry out detailed kitchen cleaning as indicated.
  6. Maintain regular and timely communication with the Scheduling Coordinator to ensure coordination and completion of above responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a licensed, professional kitchen.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative as well as follow instructions.
  • Experience in a supervisory role.
  • ServSafe Certification, or willingness to get the certification.
